Airports

The aviation industry in general and airports in particular have many vegetation problems. Controlling vegetation is a major issue for airports of all sizes. Left untreated, undesirable vegetation will destroy the structure of runways, obscure and damage fence lines, create security vulnerabilities, and create an unpleasing appearance.

Benefits

Ground Force provides many beneficial services to the aviation industry. Some of the services and their benefits are:

Vegetation growing through cracked and broken runways is treated to enhance safety, improve appearance, and preserve the integrity of the structure.

Fence lines are treated to prevent vegetation creating security issues and destroying the fence.

Large open fields in and around airports are treated with selective herbicides and growth-regulating chemistries. These treatments kill weeds and suppress the development of seed heads in grasses. Seed head suppression results in fewer seeds and reduces the likelihood of bird strikes. Selective weed control combined with growth regulation and seed head suppression also saves money for the airports and makes them more visually appealing for the public.

Trees create issues when they grow too tall and threaten to impede the takeoff or landing of aircraft. They also become obstacles to proper visibility. Trees and brush that threaten to become problems are removed by cutting or mulching. After trees are removed, these areas are treated with herbicides to prevent significant re-sprouting.

For airports that have retention or detention ponds, we can manage vegetation to improve overall aesthetics, integrity of the fence line, and reduce cost of ongoing manual maintenance.
